Damaged diamond-cut surfaces cannot be painted, polished or sanded. They have to be re-cut on a CNC lathe, exactly as in manufacture. Our CNC lathes capture the wheel contour automatically to 1 µ and remove more material only where the damage is.

What sets our CNC lathes apart

  • Automatic contour capture

    Manufacturers' CAD data is not accessible. The integrated touch probe detects the workpiece position and captures the surface to an accuracy of 1 µ (1/1000 mm).

  • Capture once, use again and again

    Every wheel type is captured once and archived in the database. Customers receive online access to our contour database with several thousand wheel contours of current vehicles.

  • Non-uniform re-cutting

    In the damage zone, usually at the rim lip, more material is removed than on the rest of the face, without a visible transition. Minimal material removal, significantly more repairable wheels.

  • Fully set up by wheel professionals

    All models are delivered complete: cutting tools, contour capture system and OPT2CUT software with annual licence. Commissioning, training and technical support are included.

    Before purchase we analyse your requirements. The training also covers the know-how for pre- and post-treatment that a good result requires.

The work on the wheel

How a CNC repair works

  1. 01

    Incoming inspection

    Visual inspection and check for structural damage. Where safety is concerned, nothing is disguised.

  2. 02

    Cleaning and clamping

    The wheel is cleaned and mounted in the manual chuck with 3 or 6 external clamping jaws.

  3. 03

    Contour capture

    The touch probe detects the workpiece position and probes the contour to an accuracy of 1 µ. If the wheel type is already in the database, this step is skipped.

  4. 04

    Contour optimisation in OPT2CUT

    The software smooths the measuring points, extends the contour towards the rim lip if required and defines where more material is removed.

  5. 05

    Re-cutting

    In the damage zone, for example, 0.5 mm; on the rest of the face only 0.1 mm. The cutting pattern is determined mainly by the feed rate and is easy to adjust.

  6. 06

    Clear coating

    The diamond-cut face is sealed with acrylic powder, gloss or matt. The know-how for this is part of the training.

Questions before buying a CNC lathe

Can damaged diamond-cut wheels be repaired without a CNC lathe?

No. Damaged diamond-cut surfaces cannot be restored by painting, polishing or rotary sanding, only by re-cutting on a CNC lathe, exactly as in manufacture.

Can all wheel types be machined?

Yes, every wheel type that was originally diamond-cut, including strongly concave wheels and extreme drop centres.

Can all cutting patterns be produced?

Yes. The cutting pattern is determined mainly by the feed rate and is easy to adjust.

What about dual-paint wheels?

Those are possible too: the wheel is coated in two colours, after which only the top colour layer is cut away. We do this ourselves on new and used wheels.

Is diamond cutting just a trend?

No. The premium manufacturers started with it years ago and other brands are following; it is an established standard. Even if trends change, the existing wheels will need repairing for years to come. We have been observing the market for more than 20 years through prototype customers and our own wheel repair business.

Is it not dangerous to re-cut the whole wheel?

Yes, if the entire face is cut down until the damage disappears. With non-uniform re-cutting, material is removed only where the damage is, usually at the rim lip; on the rest of the face only the clear coat is removed. The optimisation software ensures that the transition remains invisible.

Which model suits a small workshop?

The vertical CNC-MW28X with a 1.35 m² footprint. At around 2 wheels per day it pays for itself after roughly 6 months. Businesses without a three-phase supply choose the CNC-MW30V-Mobil (230 V, 0.95 m²).

How long does the training take?

Depending on the model, 1 to 2 days of basic training (T1 for the MW28X, T2 for the MW28H and MW28TX); the intensive course lasts 3 days. After that you can cut all wheel types yourself.

What is included in the scope of delivery?

All models are delivered complete: cutting tools, contour capture system and OPT2CUT software with annual licence. Commissioning, training and technical support are part of the package.
