Damage and process
Which damage we repair
Alloy wheels are more vulnerable than steel wheels: the material is softer, and low-profile tyres give the rim edge less protection. The most common damage is kerb damage to the rim edge, scratches and scuffs on the face, and corrosion beneath the coating.
We distinguish two categories:
- Surface damage with material removal of up to 0.5 mm. It does not affect the strength of the wheel and can be repaired professionally.
- Structural damage: cracks, severe deformation or material removal of more than 0.5 mm. We do not repair these wheels. Welding changes the material structure and can reduce strength. In case of doubt, such a wheel should be replaced.
A repair involving many small areas of damage plays a minor role in the price: scratches are usually sanded out in a few minutes. What matters is the original surface build-up, because it determines the process.
How we repair
On painted and powder coated wheels the entire surface is rebuilt. That is why the repair lasts.

Soft chemical stripping
The old coating is removed in the cold stripping bath, without heat.

Blasting, fine grit
Residual paint and oxidation are removed and the surface is made ready for coating.

Sanding of damaged areas
Kerb damage and scratches are sanded out. On diamond-cut wheels, CNC diamond cutting follows instead.

Masking and powder primer
Hub face and bolt holes are masked and the wheel receives an epoxy powder primer.

Colour
Powder coating or wet paint in the original colour or a colour of your choice. A colour change costs nothing extra as part of the repair.

Acrylic powder clear coat
Finally, a clear acrylic powder coating seals the surface permanently.

How to recognise a professional wheel repair
Questions you should ask any workshop. With us the answers are simple.
Is the whole wheel clear coated?
With spot repairs or smart repair, often only the damaged area is treated. With us the entire wheel receives a new acrylic powder clear coat.
Is it really CNC?
Some "CNC repairs" are a manual rotary sanding process. We cut on CNC lathes with contour capture and remove more material only in the damage zone.
How is the colour matched?
With effect paints, ask about colour deviations. As a wheel manufacturer we have access to almost all original colours.
Is everything done in-house?
Wet painting, powder coating and CNC diamond cutting all take place under one roof here. Nothing is subcontracted.
Questions about wheel repair
What does a wheel repair cost?
Repairing a powder coated wheel costs €175, a complete repaint €250, CNC diamond cutting €250 per wheel, each including 19% VAT. That puts the cost well below that of a new original or premium aftermarket wheel. We prepare a binding quote after inspection.
How does a wheel repair work?
On painted or powder coated wheels, the wheel is stripped and blasted, the damaged areas are sanded, the wheel is masked, powder primed, colour coated and sealed with acrylic powder. On diamond-cut or polished wheels, it is ultrasonically cleaned, CNC diamond-cut and likewise sealed with acrylic powder.
Are repair welds permitted?
Not prohibited by law, but to be rejected for safety reasons: welding can alter the material structure adversely. The "Wheels and Tyres" special committee of the FKT at the German Federal Ministry of Transport rejects interventions in the material structure, heat treatment and reshaping as a matter of principle. Slight surface damage, on the other hand, can be repaired without concern.
Can multi-piece wheels be repaired?
Yes. On multi-piece wheels, defective parts can be exchanged for parts specified by the manufacturer. Prices on request.
I have scratched my wheels. Can I have them painted?
Yes. Light scratches and scuffs with no effect on the material structure are the classic case for a repair with recoating.
