Vibrations, steering wheel shimmy, slow pressure loss: typical signs of radial or lateral run-out. We remove slight deformations gently on the material structure by hydraulically re-rolling the wheel with applied heat.

When straightening makes sense

Replacement is only necessary with major structural damage. Wheels are safety-relevant components, which is why we check every wheel for deformation and cracks before straightening: by 3D laser measurement with five CCD cameras and by the dye penetrant method.

We restore slight radial and lateral run-out gently on the material structure. Reshaping is only possible if the deviation is within the tenth-of-a-millimetre range. Greater deformation, cracks or material removal above 0.5 mm are structural damage. We do not straighten these wheels, because cold forming and welding alter the structure of the material.

Motorcycle wheels: the run-out check is possible from a 43 mm centre bore diameter. We check deformed motorcycle wheels only when removed from the bike, and reshape them only in exceptional cases.

How the run-out repair works

Included in the price of €150 per wheel.

    Laser measurement

    Five CCD cameras capture wheel and tyre with 3D laser stripes in a single measuring pass: radial and lateral run-out left and right, spoke position, weight position. Accuracy 1/100 mm.

  2. 02

    Crack test

    Dye penetrant method on the affected areas. If there are cracks, the repair ends here, and we tell you so.

  3. 03

    Straightening

    Hydraulic re-rolling of the wheel with applied heat on our MW28R straightening machine, with digital measurement to 0.1 mm.

  4. 04

    Check measurement and report

    Repeat laser measurement. You receive the inspection report, digitally if you wish.

Questions about wheel straightening

My wheels have run-out damage. What should I do?

Whether a repair is possible can only be determined by 3D laser measurement here on site. The tyres must be removed for this; we measure both complete wheels and loose wheels. Inspections with tyres fitted require an appointment; loose wheels can be dropped off at any time.

How do I recognise radial or lateral run-out?

Vibrations, a wobbling steering wheel, slow pressure loss or uneven tyre wear. After hitting a kerb or pothole, an inspection is always worthwhile.

What does the inspection cost if no repair is carried out?

Visual inspection €0, laser measurement €40 with inspection report, crack test €75, each per wheel incl. VAT. If the wheel is subsequently repaired by us, we offset the cost of the laser measurement against the repair price (fair repair).

Is straightening safe?

Within tenths of a millimetre and gently on the structure with applied heat: yes. We reject cold forming and welding. The check measurement after straightening documents the result.
