Porsche GTS wheel in Turbo look
Case study: the matt black wheels of a Porsche 911 (991) GTS are CNC diamond-cut and fully acrylic-coated to give them the bicolour look of the Turbo S wheel. Material removal in the 1/100 mm range, feed rate 0.2 to 0.4 mm per revolution.

Would you like the GTS wheels of your 911 in the same look Porsche offers only for the 911 Turbo? Porsche does not offer the Turbo S wheel for the 911 (991) GTS in the diamond-cut finish that is available for the 991 Turbo. We can change that. Just as in production, we diamond-cut the surface of the GTS wheels in-house and then acrylic-coat the complete wheel, exactly as in the original.
Before and after

Porsche GTS wheel before and after machining: CNC diamond cutting and matt acrylic coating.
Material removal in the 1/100 mm range
During CNC machining, material is removed only in the 1/100 mm range. The top layer of paint is taken off so that the desired structure forms on the bare aluminium. This structure is called the turning pattern. The turning pattern can be set precisely by changing the feed rate on the CNC lathe. Normally the work is done with a feed rate in the range of 0.2 to 0.4 mm per revolution. We describe the process under CNC diamond cutting.
Masking the hub face and bolt holes
To make sure the hub face and the bolt holes are not coated as well, they are masked before the acrylic coating is applied. Otherwise the wheel bolts can work loose. Likewise there must be no paint on the hub face. Masking off these areas prevents powder coating from being applied there.
The result: Turbo look
The bicolour finish created this way makes the Porsche wheels look considerably more premium than the single-colour surface and gives the car the Turbo look. Under the matt coating, the polished wheel contour makes the Turbo S wheel look distinctly sportier after CNC machining.
